Teaching and Training
There are three different teaching and training qualifications available to anyone working as a teacher, trainer or instructor within any industry. These qualifications are now being recognised as the 'benchmark' and required standards for teachers, trainers and instructors in both academic vocational organisations/institutions and commercial training and development departments.
NCFE Level 3 Award in Education and Training
This is an introductory teaching and training qualification for people wanting to gain a nationally recognised and fully accredited qualification. It can be taken by teachers, trainers, assessors or instructors who currently teach, or those wishing to enter into a teaching or training role.
The qualification was introduced in 2014 to replace the popular PTLLS programme. This qualification is offered in a unit based format, where a selection of units can be taken to build up to the full requirements of the Award. The Level 3 Award is a 12 credit programme that caters for a wide variety of teachers, trainers, assessors and instructors. It provides a solid introduction to teaching and training or can be used to confirm competence and knowledge for experienced practitioners.
NCFE Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
The Certificate in Education and Training was also updated in 2014 to become an extremely flexible qualification for teachers, trainers, tutors and assessors. It also caters for anyone involved in quality assurance as a teacher and practitioner, coaches, mentors and support workers. The Certificate can also be taken by anyone wanting to enter into a career within teaching or training who currently conducts some form of teaching or training.
The unitised programme is made up of 36 credits by completing a number of units that are available to individuals depending on their desired training or progression.
NCFE Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
This qualification also came into operation in 2014, replacing the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS). Progression onto this qualification is now much more simpler than DTLLS, as candidates can enter straight onto the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, or progress through the earlier levels if they wish. This is the ultimate teaching and training qualification, allowing for professional recognition with the Education and Training Foundation.
